Hotels in Newcastle for Long Weekends and City Breaks

Posted in Travel on 06.01.11 by Merlyn

In recent times Newcastle has changed itself in to the north east’s top tourist destination in addition to growing to be the areas business centre. Millions of pounds of investment have re-energized the city centre turning it into a desirable place to live and also work and helped to make 1000s of brand-new work opportunities.

There are numerous good reasons to go to Newcastle and it has been voted the UK’s favourite city break for 4 consecutive years in The Guardian/Observer travel awards. Newcastle provides an array of excellent attractions for the family and a weekend break won’t be enough to investigate all of them.

It is well recognized that the north east is a hotbed of sporting fanaticism and now that Newcastle United are back in the Premier league there are certain to be thousands of soccer fans from round the nation doing the journey to St James’s Park. The Great North Run is yet another event which attracts tens of thousands of runners and spectators to the city every year and also helps to raise millions of pounds for charity.

Shopping is yet another big attraction to the city with a huge selection of retailers and boutiques inside the city centre and three big shopping centres inside the city itself. The MetroCentre is the largest shopping centre in Europe and it is very easy to spend a weekend break there browsing through the countless designer outlets it offers. With the Newcastle Quayside Market beginning in July 2010 plus the already established Grainger market, Jesmond market and the Farmers & Country market you will be hard pressed not to grab a good deal somewhere.

Newcastle has one of the best variety of clubs and pubs in the united kingdom and has a reputation across the UK as the place to go for a great night out. The Quayside and the Bigg market draw in a lively, young crowd and for the somewhat more mature you will find a large number of traditional pubs, theatres and top quality dining establishments. No trip to Newcastle would be complete without trying at least one bottle of the famous Newcastle Brown Ale that has been brewed in the area for longer than eighty years.

When you are searching for a place to stay you’ll find an incredible selection of hotels in Newcastle to select from. From B&B’s to five star hotels there is accommodation to match every pocket and I can personally highly recommend the Rosebery Hotel in Jesmond as a superb place to stay.
